About Us

Backpacks for Africa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the educational environment in rural African schools. Founded in 2014, our mission began with providing students with the basic essentials for learning, backpacks filled with school supplies, because we believe that a quality education starts with something as simple as a pencil and paper.

Since then, our efforts have expanded to include classroom improvements, new learning structures, and scholarships for high-achieving students who lack the means to fund their education. In countries like Malawi, one of the poorest nations in Africa, your support helps us provide thousands of students with the educational resources they need to build a brighter future.
